Artist Statement
I was born and raised in Calgary Alberta, Canada where I completed my degree in psychology with a minor in art. My working life was as a rehab consultant in Vancouver,BC, Canada but art was studied on an ongoing basis.
In 2007 my husband and I were married and moved back to his home in Brighton, England. I have joined both art and embroidery groups here who are very supportive of a colonial in their midst. We now share living in our home in Brighton, and our home in White Rock near Vancouver, BC.
After years of working with oil, I started working with textiles in the mid 90's. This has lead to incorporating both disciplines in the field of mixed media. In 2002, I expanded my involvement in mixed media through training with the England based City and Guilds which I studied at the Gail Harker Creative Studies Centre in Washington, USA. I completed the City and Guilds certification in Art and Design as well as levels I and II machine embroidery. In 2007 I completed the Advanced Experimental Machine Stitch level III.
I continue to take instruction through the Norfolk Painting School in the UK for my oil paintings as well as give occasional workshops in textiles.
My art now includes painting in oil and encaustic as well as mixed media pieces involving textiles and stitch. |
