Why am I getting less traffic? Filed under: Analysis Tags: Basics history
Several artists have contacted us to find out why their website hits dropped dramatically when we switched over to our new servers at the being of August.
The reason that your artist website hits were so high previously is that the website is constantly being scanned by a variety of robots. Some of these robots are legitimate while others are robots initiated from Russia and China and by scammers and others looking to steal passwords, etc.
Since we have moved to a new server platform, we are able to filter out the robots to just the major search engines i.e. yahoo, google, bing, etc. This has greatly reduced the number of robot hits on the website and the reason that your numbers are down.
It you wish to get a more refined look at the hits on your website, we provide a facility for you to use the google analytics function which allows you to see where the hits are coming from by geography. It will also tell you the source of the traffic i.e. whether it is an actual user or just a robot.
We have set up instructions on setting up this function in our technical blog. Click here to see the setup instructions for using google analytics.
