Oh what a feelin'
What a blessing it is to be able to create something for someone, and have them be overjoyed when they see it! The recent piece I was commissioned to do was a bracelet to commemorate a beautiful little girl's first birthday. The mom had a bracelet that she had been given as a child, and wanted a similar piece for her daughter. I decided to make it out of slightly heavier silver, a little wider, a little more modern and, as always, held my breath at the "reveal". Her eyes lit up, then teared up, and she was initially quiet for a few seconds. I wasn't sure if it was because she loved it or hated it, but it was only another few seconds before she let me know that she was thrilled. I was so honored to be able to be a part of this process, and it reminded me again of how much I love what I do. I got a great, warm hug, and pretty soon all of us there had tears in our eyes, which quickly turned to laughter in that shared moment.
I will post a photo of the two bracelets side by side, the delicate original and its modern counterpart. Maybe one day the little girl will see this blog, and be able to be a part of the moment she inspired.
Peace

One down...one to go
After a long, stressful, butt kicking year, I decided to take a few days off last week, tag them onto the long weekend. On Thursday I did the unthinkable....took the dog to daycare, made no promises and no commitments to anyone, and just did whatever the heck I wanted for the whole day. It gave me a chance to visit Joye at Joye Designs, swap out some older stock for some newer stock, and just sit and chat for a while. While sitting there a young mom came in with her baby daughter who's turning 1 tomorrow, and was hoping to replicate the silver bracelet she was given as a baby. Long story short, Joye suggested I'd be the right artist for the job, we had a quick talk about what she'd like, and bam, just like that, a commission. Even better - a deadline. It's amazing how having that deadline kick-started me into gear and got me moving.
Before leaving the gallery I had another potential commission which I just found out a few minutes ago is confirmed, so YAY!!! Another job, another deadline, another reason to get my butt into the workshop. Thanks universe :)
Peace
