Day to Myself

Yesterday was my birthday, and I did something I have never done before...I took the day off, took the dog to daycare, and took myself to Granville Island for a walkabout. I spent 3 hours just wandering in and out of galleries, Dragonspace, which is probably one of my favorite shops in the universe, through the farmer's market, Opus, and even the children's market, although it has been a long time since my "little (6'3) boy" has had any interest in toys. To top it off, another first...I bought myself a German Lamy nib pen, in blue anodized metal, even though it was $20 more than the plastic version which probably works just as well, but is just not as pretty. After all was said and done, I came home and had a 2-hour nap, and then into the workshop to paint some more skulls. I'm not sure I've ever taken a day absolutely just for me, but I've got to say, (and the whole day cost me less then $100), there's definitely something very decadent and satisfying about it :)

With any luck, next year I can do it again.

May you all enjoy this rainy day!

Peace

What does a migraine look like?

As someone who has suffered from migraines for over 35 years, there have been many times I've felt like there is a screw driving into my brain. Meanwhile, I still have to get through my day as though nothing is wrong. That's where the concept for "Migraine Molly" came from. Often when I have a wicked headache, I go into the workshop and try to focus on something, anything, besides the pain. It was during one of these episodes that I picked up the small bust of a doll, and went to work. By the time I was done, my headache had disappeared. Poor Molly, I'm pretty sure hers will never go away!

Does that make me a bad person?

Never too early for skulls!

Halloween is my very most favorite holiday of the year! Okay, technically not a holiday, but definitely a time to celebrate. In the spirit of the celebration, I've been working on a lot of skull themed art in the last few weeks. Let me re-phrase that....I've been working on a lot MORE skull art in the last few weeks.

What can I say? It makes me happy, twisted little person that I am :)

I've posted an acrylic painted, cast resin skull in the miscellaneous studio. It's painted in a realistic style, to look aged and wise. Not to worry though, the rest of what I've been working on is gruesome, fun and, at least in my eyes, cute as ever! Pop on by and have a look, if the mood strikes you.
